Retail NI have commented on today’s release of the draft business rate valuations for 75,000 businesses in Northern Ireland.

Retail NI Chief Executive Glyn Roberts said:

“Retail NI will be engaging with its members on the impact of this and will provide guidance to any independent retailer that sees an increase in their valuation”

“If business owners are unhappy with their valuation, they can appeal, and we would encourage them to do so”

“While we need to do a more detailed impact analysis of the Reval 2023, we are concerned that Land and Property Services have indicated they are increasing the rateable value of some local independent food retailers. If this is the case, then we will be strongly challenging this”

“Retail NI is hosting an Reval 2023 information seminar on the 18th of January to assist independent retailers with any queries and how to appeal”
