Belfast-based EV infrastructure company Weev has announced a new partnership with Retail NI as a supplier member of the leading trade body.

Retail NI is a not for profit, locally based business organisation that represents independent retailers, wholesalers and suppliers to the sector.

Weev Chief Commercial Officer Thomas O’Hagan said:

“At Weev, we are dedicated to facilitating the expansion of the EV charging network right across Northern Ireland and beyond.

“We are extremely pleased to have joined Retail NI as a supplier member and look forward to working collaboratively with the organisation and other members to help retail businesses access the benefits offered by EVs.

“Retail settings, shopping centre car parks and forecourts represent a key part of our mission to ramp up Northern Ireland’s EV charging provision.

“The installation of EV charging points presents a valuable opportunity for retail businesses to not only provide their customers with an essential service, but to drive new revenue streams and also demonstrate their commitment to sustainability.

Retail NI offers members a wide range of vital business services including advice, support and a voice at all levels of government to help both retailers and local suppliers to achieve their ambitions.

Glyn Roberts, Chief Executive, Retail NI, said:

“I am delighted to welcome Weev to Retail NI as a new supplier member. It is clear that electric vehicles represent the future for all of us and it is vital that retailers lay the groundwork for the future now as we seek to provide a first-class service for our customers.”

The news follows the recent announcement that Weev has installed the first publicly available multi-point rapid charging hub in Belfast at the Twin Spires Complex, enabling EV drivers to charge their vehicles in around 45 minutes, with a similar scheme now live at the Park Centre.

In total, the company plans to install 1,500 new charging points across Northern Ireland before the end of 2024, including at six major ultra-rapid charging hub sites that will see drivers able to fully ‘top-up’ their vehicles in less than 20 minutes.
